Stichill Parish -- Past and Present

"Stichill Parish Past and Present" is a new publication by Margaret Carlaw and Derek Ogston.

The book, extensively illustrated with both black and white and colour photographs, provides an account of Stichill's early history including conflicts and royal connections. Land ownership and management over time is discussed and a large section deals with land use, particularly agriculture and forestry.
Further sections consider the religious life of the parish and the various forms of education provided through the centuries. Changes in employment, housing, health, population and community activities up to the present day are described, followed by a brief account of prominent people connected with Stichill.
A final section illustrates examples of the range of wildlife found within the parish.

The authors have generously donated the total publication of 200 copies to be sold for the benefit of the Community. Having considered the publication the Village Hall Committee has set the price at 20 which is very fair for a book of this quality.

There are still a few copies available by contacting Alex Robertson on 01573 470 260 or June Brown on 01573 470 377 or any other member of the Stichill Hall Committee.

We have yet to decide how the monies collected will best benefit the Community and we would welcome suggestions for consideration at the next Committee Meeting on 16th February
at 7.00pm
